"I have issued a statement to the channel 'I, Anu Malik, have chose to take a break from Indian Idol as I am now unable to focus on my work on the show.' The channel has been kind to agree for the same", Anu Malik was quoted by Indian Express.
Earlier, Sona too had accused Malik of sexual harassment.
Now according to the latest developments, Malik has exclusively given out a statement to Pinkvilla saying that he is taking a break from the show.
Sona Mohapatra has named Anu Malik and Kailash Kher in her #MeToo accounts. However, Malik denied all allegations that said he sexually harassed Pandit. In a lengthy social media post, he wrote that Anu Malik asked Shweta to sing but she requested him if she could give the voice test from a separate room. She also said the episode had left her depressed for months. After she was done singing, he complimented her and said he'll let her know if he has work for her in the future.
A lawyer for the music director Thursday denied the claims against him, saying India's #MeToo movement is being used for his client's "character assassination". In a statement, the music director, who has been attached with the show as a judge since 2004, said he had chose to step away from it as he was not able to "focus on my work".
"This incident occurred in Kolkata. She was startled. The cameraman, who was sitting in the front seat, wasn't aware of what was going on behind him", Ms D'Souza told mid-day. One of our colleagues from the production crew was travelling with a cameraman and Malik in a vehicle to get sound bites. I sang it well so he said, "I'll give you this song with Sunidhi and Shaan but first give me a kiss now". Luckily, the doorbell rang at that moment."She said that he threatened her and told her not talk about the incident with anyone". Recounting her experience to Mid-Day, she said the composer unzipped his trousers and asked her to "lick" him. Various names such as Alok Nath, Vikas Behl, Rajat Kapoor, Sajid Kapoor have been allegedly accused of sexual misconduct.
