Doorbell cam captures moment toddler is abandoned outside stranger's home

Woman in Texas facing abandonment charge after allegedly leaving child alone on doorstep

VIDEO: Woman captured on camera leaving toddler on stranger's doorstep

A toddler was reunited with his father after a woman was caught on video leaving him alone on the steps of a home in Texas on Wednesday night, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.

The video shows the woman running toward the front door of the home while lifting the child in the air by one arm.

In the video, the woman, who has still not been found, runs up to the door with the boy in her arm.

She flees, jumps into a auto and drives off, leaving the boy standing at the door.

It turns out the house the child was left as was next door to the father's residence, which bolsters the woman's claim she got the address confused. She then called 911.

"If that was her child, she wouldn't have left him", he said, according to the Chronicle. Child Protective Services took custody of the child and brought him to a foster family.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies have identified a 2-year-old boy who was abandoned on the front porch of a Spring home near Houston.

They have appealed for further information about the woman and have described her as being in her mid-20's to early 30's with long hair reaching below her waist. Child Protective Services in Texas took custody of the boy before he went back to his father, who KPRC reports told deputies a friend of the mother left the child at the wrong house.

On arrival, police were shown surveillance camera footage from the residence and say the woman arrived in a white passenger auto.

But the woman seen in the video says she just made a mistake.

"The female in the video then left the location without verifying anyone was home or who she was releasing the child to, which placed the child in great danger", Spencer said. Authorities say it will be up to CPS on if the child will be returned to his parents.

The sheriff's office will continue to investigate. She faces a charge of child abandonment, which is a felony. Though her name has not been released, Spencer did indicate that she was a friend of Simmons' family.
