A fractured fairy tale is putting the pieces back together for a comeback. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, who were executive producers on the original show, will also executive produce the spinoff under their Hazy Mills banner.
The as-yet-untitled Grimm spin-off will be written and executive produced by Melissa Glenn (Marvel's Iron Fist, The CW's Beauty And The Beast). The new series' main character will reportedly be a female Grimm this time. Even though not much about the series is known in terms of its plot, it has been revealed that the new series "will feature returning favorites along with new characters, new mysteries and new dangers". Grimm co-creators/showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf will also help out with the series, both as consulting producers.
The original Grimm followed Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt, played by David Giuntoli, who discovers he comes from a long line of guardians sworn to protect the mortal world from mythological creatures called Wesen. Other cast members - including Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee, and Elizabeth Tulloch - have all booked projects since the series finale. Giuntoli is now on the ABC drama "A Million Little Things". Now, it seems as if the network is eager to rekindle the mythology with an all-new spinoff series.
NBC is returning to the world of Grimm in the near future, but with a twist on the beloved fantasy/mystery series. The ratings success, combined with a strong global performance, made the decision to move forward with a spinoff a no-brainer for the network.
