Razer has launched its follow up to the "category creating" Razer Phone. The phone is a successor of Razer Phone which was launched previous year in November. Called the Razer Phone 2, the device improves the camera, adds wireless charging, and bumps up the specs across the board compared to its predecessor.
Looking below the familiar exterior yields more similarities with Razer's first gaming smartphone; 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS storage with a microSD card slot are still part of the package, with the only difference being that the phone's memory is now expandable by up to 1TB (not that it matters since you won't be able to buy 1TB microSD cards for some time anyway).
The Razer Phone 2 packs a truckload of upgrades over its predecessor, including Dolby Atmos dual front-firing speakers, IP67 water resistance, and a redesigned dual-camera set-up with Sony IMX sensors. On the topic of audio, Razer includes a 24-bit USB-C DAC. "The screen is still a 5.7" 120Hz 1440p LCD panel, though we're hoping it has better viewing angles. The site also notes that the display is 50% brighter than before, at 580 nits peak brightness, and it apparently offers wide color support with 98.4% coverage of the DCI P3 gamut, according to Anandtech.
The Amazon listing is said to have detailed a new cooling improvement via the addition of a "unique vapor chamber" for long gaming sessions.
The device still comes with the fantastic 5.7-inch UltraMotion IGZO display, and it continues to be the only phone in the industry to sport a display with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Cameras have been improved in this second generation device. The front camera offers 60-FPS video at 1920x1080 for potentially crisp and smooth video chatting. Another software USP is claimed to be it being the only Netflix HDR certified mobile with Dolby Surround 5.1. The Razer Phone 2 already appeals to a pretty specialist audience, and a transparent Razer Phone 2 will only sweeten the deal.
The Razer Phone 2 is available for pre-order right now over on Razer.com for customers in the USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
