The Santo Domingo News, a Spanish-language site, tweeted about the incident in English with pictures, purportedly of Gillandeux with his left leg in a cast and a police report of the incident.
Their powerful third baseman, Miguel Sano, was arrested early Sunday morning after being involved in a traffic accident in the Dominican Republic. Sano was released from custody after promising to meet with authorities today.
According to a police report posted online, Sano and his wife were in a vehicle that didn't have license plates and were stopped after leaving a nightclub.
The Twins say they are aware of the incident and are gathering information.
An update later Monday morning said Sano will not face criminal charges for the incident, as it was deemed not to be intentional.
Sano is said to have hit a police offer after driving through a checkpoint outside a nightclub.
"The Minnesota Twins have been made aware of a situation involving Miguel Sano recently in the Dominican Republic".
Gillandeux suffered a fracture to the tibia and fibula in his left leg and was taken to the hospital by Sano, Duran told ESPN.
The 25-year-old Sano is a native of the Dominican Republic and lives there in the offseason. "We will have no further comment at this time".
It's the latest off-the-field issue for Sano, who was accused past year of sexual assault by a photographer who claimed the All-Star third baseman tried to forcibly kiss her after an autograph session at a mall in 2015.
His delayed spring training and an April hamstring injury set the stage for Sano having the worst season of his career. He hit just.199 in 71 games and earned a trip back to the minors to work on his swing and lose weight.
