Moving beyond a rancorous confirmation battle that divided the country, Brett Kavanaugh got down to business as a US Supreme Court justice on Tuesday and took an active role in arguments alongside his eight new colleagues on his first day on the job.
The judge who made that recommendation to Roberts, Karen Le Craft Henderson, said in a letter that she was making this suggestion "because of the exceptional circumstance related to the above referenced complaints and the concern that local disposition may weaken public confidence in the process".
The complaints, which were originally filed in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals over the course of the last month, were only a few among the many that had been lodged against Kavanaugh.
The move by Roberts is significant because he didn't dismiss the complaints. Details of the complaints have not been made public.
