There were only a couple of other political moments during the night - including a passionate call to vote from presenter Billy Eichner and host Tracee Ellis Ross wearing a T-shirt that said, "I am a voter". "I love you guys".

"This award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people", said the singer. She encouraged everyone to get out and vote this midterm election cycle.

The show aired Tuesday on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Cardi B won the Rap/Hip-Hop Artist gong and thanked her three-month-old daughter, Kulture.

Swift opened up during one of her acceptance speeches, revealing she was already working on new work.

The American Music Awards happened today, and even though Taylor Swift slithered away with four awards including Artist Of The Year, the real victor of the night was Cardi B.

Taylor performed "I Did Something Bad", and because I like to read into things, I am going to go ahead and interpret the bad thing that "feels so good" as her finally breaking her apolitical stance and letting out all her midterm election feels. Swift, who had 19 AMA wins prior to this year's show, walked away with a total of 22 awards, beating Whitney Houston's longstanding record of 21 wins.

Camila Cabello and her former Fifth Harmony were intentionally placed apart from one another at Tuesday's American Music Awards.

Shortly after her explosive performance, Swift won the AMA for Best Tour.

Competition will be fierce at this year's American Music Awards.

This was not only the group's first American Music Award nomination, but it is also now their first award from this show.

"And you can go to Vote.org like Taylor Swift told you to".

Taylor went heavy with the use of snake imagery for her Reputation tour - there was a snake microphone, snake merchandise, and even a whopping great snake prop on stage.

And Aretha Franklin was honored with a star-studded performance highlighting the Queen of Soul's gospel roots and her 1972 album Amazing Grace.
