Richard Jefferson's Father Killed In Drive-By Shooting In Compton

Richard Jefferson Sr died in a drive-by shooting in Compton, California on Wednesday night, per TMZ Sports.

The 65-year-old was outside a liquor store in a residential area when an unknown person opened fire from an approaching vehicle, TMZ reported. The 65-year-old was shot multiple times in the torso and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is now investigating the shooting. He grew up with his mother and stepfather as they moved to Phoenix when he was seven years old.

Two other men were believed to be with Jefferson the time of the shooting.

The father of National Basketball Association player Richard Jefferson, shown here at left guarding LeBron James last season, was 65. It was unclear if he was the target. The team traded Jefferson the Atlanta Hawks in 2017.

Investigators did not provide a motive for the attack and did not release a description of the suspects. He played for the Denver Nuggets last season and in 2016 won a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
