Hashmatullah Shahidi and skipper Asghar Afghan scored half centuries as Afghanistan scored 257/6 in their Super Four fixture of the Asia Cup 2018 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Hashmatullah Shaidi played an innings of 97 not out. The Afghanistan captain chipped in with a handy knock of 67 runs. Afghanistan are 101/3 in 26 overs.

On Friday, while a confident Afghanistan team will aim to continue their winning momentum by defeating Pakistan, Sarfraz Ahmed's boys will look to banish memories of their previous group match loss to India.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first in humid conditions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Sarfraz Ahmed (c), Asif Ali, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali Imam-ul-Haq, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Shoaib Malik, Usman Khan.

But it was Shahidi who held one end against Pakistan s bowling in an innings which featured seven boundaries after left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz (3-57) had put the brakes on Afghanistan s early progress.

In Asia Cup 2018, Pakistan has only beaten Hong Kong but Afghanistan thrashed comparatively much-experienced sides, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Rahmat Shah was the third wicket to fall, all three picked by Mohammad Nawaz.

Pakistani fielders dropped four catches - three off debutant paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi who finished with 2-38. Whereas Pakistan beat Hong Kong by 8 wickets in the second match.
