Spinner Rashid Khan celebrated his 20th birthday in style by producing a stunning all-round display as Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 136 runs in an Asia Cup match in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, 20 September.
Rashid, who finished with 2-13 in nine overs and effected a run out, claimed the prized wickets of Shakib Al Hasan (32) and Mahmudullah Riyad (27) as Bangladesh were bundled out for 119 in 42.1 overs. The in-form top-order batsman scored 72 against Sri Lanka and he is expected to replicate it against Bangladesh as well.
When is the Asia Cup 2018 match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan?
While their most significant players still remain the spin wizard duo of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, other players like all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and Rahmat Shah are using the platform nicely to shine for their national team.
Bangladesh has a slight edge when it comes to head-to-head record with three wins over Afghanistan's two.
But Rashid (57) and Naib (42) had other idea and their unbeaten stand of 95 took the game out of Bangladesh's reach.
Two more strikes from Shakib, who finished with 4/42, reduced Afghanistan to 139/5 and the quick departures of Shahidi (58) and Nabi (10) dampened their hopes of a competitive total.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Afghanistan did not have the best of starts as they lost Ihsanullah Janat in the second over of their innings by debutant Abu Hider.
On the other hand, Afghanistan amazed everyone in their last match against Sri Lanka when they defeated them by 91 runs.
Both the teams have already made it to the Super Fours after Sri Lanka were eliminated from Group B.
