Set pagers to stun - the first trailer for Captain Marvel has landed, teasing the introduction of Carol Danvers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fury continues to narrate the footage: "Space invasion, big auto chase - truth be told, I was ready to hang it up until I met you today".

There are certain things that trailer needs to show off in order to get us really excited and we've narrowed them down to five things. "I keep having these memories", she says, as scenes and flashbacks mix together of her in battle, in training for the Air Force, and as a little girl. "But what makes her special is just how human she is".

That's something current Marvel Comics fans knew right away, as the symbol flashed on the beeper is the same one Captain Marvel wears on her chest. "But I can't tell if it's real".

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck - another left-field choice by Marvel, as the pair were previously known for small scale indie films such as Half Nelson, baseball movie Sugar, and gambling drama Mississippi Grind. Nick Fury and Maria Hill have both been dusted by Thanos' reality-altering, Infinity Gauntlet-powered snap, and Fury's final action was to call for help using some busted-up tech. Since then the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown exponentially and studio executives have realised that a woman leading her own comic book movie can be incredibly successful (thanks Wonder Woman!).

"Captain Marvel" is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.

Jackson's Nick Fury and Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson are low-level SHIELD agents as well. Watch the trailer above, and stay tuned for EW's full, frame-by-frame breakdown.
