"We are pushing supplies as hard as we possibly can with the plan that (the road) may not sustain us over the next week", agency Secretary James Trogdon said.
The storm has set rainfall records in several locations in North Carolina, including Swansboro, with a whopping 34 inches, Hoffman Forest with 29.48 inches and Sunny Point with 27.44 inches.
Military officials said the USNS Comfort hospital ship has not been deployed because communities surrounding the disaster area are able to provide adequate medical services.
