The first look of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel is here.

On Wednesday, fans got their first look of Brie Larson in costume as Captain Marvel. Skrulls are shape-shifters in the Marvel comics, and that's why Mendelsohn is seen in his human avatar in an on-set photo, as he seeks to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. Captain Marvel is rumored to be one of, if not the, strongest heroes in the MCU. She gains superhuman strength, endurance, stamina and durability, as well as the ability to fly, and fire energy bursts from her hands. Captain Marvel will also be scored by Pinar Toprak (Krypton), marking the first time a major comic book movie has been scored by a woman.

Captain Marvel is set to be released on March 7, 2019. Getting a glimpse at the film's aesthetic is one thing, but getting an understanding of the film's plotline from the pictures is an entirely different level of fandom - one we're here to encourage.

As for the Skrulls, they're a shape-shifting alien race who have caused all sorts of havoc in the comics - including replacing most of earth's heroes with Skrull duplicates in Secret Invasion, which has always been one of the popular fan theories about what plot Avengers 4 might follow. According to the outlet's article, the in media res opening will find Carol already with her powers and having abandoned life on Earth to join an elite Kree military squad called Starforce, led by Jude Law's Mar-Vell.

This batch of photos is quite revealing, considering that we haven't had too much to go on prior to this in regards to the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck co-directed MCU entry. She will eventually return to earth to to take on the Skrulls as they wage a galactic war with the Kree.

Anna Boden, the movie's director, and MCU's first female director, said what made Captain Marvel special is "This is not a superhero who's ideal or otherworldly or has some godlike connection".

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War teased Brie Larson's Captain Marvel in its post credit scene.

Warning: There are potential spoilers ahead for Captain Marvel! Unless all of the bad Skrulls get defeated by the end of Captain Marvel, we won't put it past Marvel to secretly plant a few Skrulls in the present-day MCU.

See more photos from the film, including shots of Law, Mendelsohn, a youthful Jackson and MCU veterans Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, below.
