Chelsea beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 to give Maurizio Sarri a winning start as manager of the Blues. "We did it better in the second half, there was more space and time".

It was one of the first pieces of subconscious and fluid play from Chelsea, and it immediately reaped rewards as it killed off Huddersfield just before half-time.

"I have seen passion, desire, the spirit, which we usually have in our game".

Chelsea's second came after Schindler had tripped Marcos Alonso, referee Chris Kavanagh being berated for the decision but he got the ball right. Sometimes describing the Frenchman as a defensive midfielder - even if that has been his primary role so far for Chelsea - feels like his extensive talents are being underplayed.

"It's better that he plays with us than against us, which is why I told him to stay".

However, they scored from both, and never looked like letting their advantage slip.

However, Wagner denied suggestions his players had shown their opponents too much respect.

"We have been working really hard with (Sarri)", he said. If you look at the result, you can think about an easy game, but in the first half we were in trouble for 15 minutes against a very physical team. The Italy global waited for him to move to one side, faking to strike before sliding it across the opposite corner while he was essentially on his knees.

"When you haven't got that expectation on you I think it's good".

Huddersfield, employing a three-man backline, had impressed in the first half and could have cancelled out Kante's opener but Steve Mounie headed against the inside of the post. He did not want a new defender to help with a switch to a back four from the three-man alignment preferred by Antonio Conten and neither was he keen on another striker, despite the struggles last season of Alvaro Morata.

The Blues may have been disappointing against Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend but their Premier League campaign is up and running.

"The boys have done well today - not flawless, but well".

As well as brilliantly setting up the third goal of the afternoon for Pedro, the winger also embarked on a mazy run that took five Huddersfield players to stop him. I saw our spirit, togetherness and good attitude today, which is what we will need to be competitive this season. "That's enough for me to be confident for this Premier League season, if we keep it up".
