However, the allegations have infuriated Pitt, and his attorney, Lance Spiegel, has now fired back at Jolie, suggesting she lied about the lack of child support funds.

"What has been filed by Brad's side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children", the statement read.

In court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Pitt's attorney stated, "Respondent has previously loaned Petitioner $8.0 million to assist her in purchasing her current residence and has paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of Petitioner and the minor children".

Another thing the filing claims is that on August 6, Angelina asked Brad and his team to wait (a week) to take action on any new filings but on August 7, she reportedly tried to make it seem like she had the complaints first by taking action herself. "Angelina will of course honour that loan".

"[Pitt] has a statutory duty to pay child support".

'Angelina is asking Brad to pay 50 percent of the children's expenses.

A bitter custody battle between Jolie, 43, and Pitt, 54, has played out publicly in the time since their announced separation. Jolie Pitt says she wants her divorce from Brad Pitt finalized before the end of the year, and that she intends to seek retroactive child support.

In the documents, Pitt's lawyers also said Jolie's claims regarding child support were a "thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage". Jolie Pitt now has primary custody of their children.

On Tuesday, Jolie's legal team filed papers accusing Pitt of skirting his financial responsibilities to their six children: Maddox, 17, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 10.

'The divorce case has been held in front of a private judge to keep it out of the press, ' one friend told the gossip site. "[Angelina's] main focus has always been to co-parent with Brad", the source adds.

Custody issues have proved to be the biggest stumbling block in legally ending the marriage.

'She can't see past her anger for Brad that he is on his way to getting joint custody, ' said the magazine's source.
