Actually, combined PSOne, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP, PS Vita sales are significantly over 500 million - the brand has moved a whopping 525.3 million units to date.
Sony has today announced that 500 million PlayStations have been sold worldwide and to celebrate, they're doing something special.
'PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition has been created to represent our appreciation to our loyal fans. Now, 24 years and four generations of hardware later, Sony is celebrating selling 500 million consoles. Like the console, these two accessories will be a dark, translucent blue with copper accents.
However, if you already own a PS4 Pro and you just want the controller, you're in luck. There's only going to be 50,000 of these made and each will have a commemorative copper plate on its front, with its limited edition serial number etched into it. It's the first PS4 Pro to come with a 2TB hard drive, and Sony is also offering a matching gold wireless headset as an extra for $100. Select consoles also have important dates etched onto them, such those marking the United States launch of the original PlayStation and the PS4. Another serial number to keep an eye out for is 01013, which is the United States launch date of PSVR.
In addition, a limited-edition Gold Wireless Headset and wireless controller will be sold separately. They'll also be available from August 24, again in limited numbers.
