In addition, four short films running 10 to 15 minutes each spotlighting different members of the Discovery cast will be released in December as a kind of appetizer before the show returns in earnest.
The panel also gave a nod to Trek actors past. Season 1 of the show ended with the reveal of the Enterprise, and Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) will fill the iconic Star Trek role of Enterprise Captain Christopher Pike in the second season.
Number One, the stoic second in command first seen in the original Star Trek pilot and "The Menagerie", was originally played by Majel Barrett Roddenberry, creator Gene Roddenberry's second wife. Mount's Captain Pike shows up wearing a yellow uniform reminiscent of the Enterprises' original series uniforms, but also dons Discovery's blue jumpsuit get-up.
