Tom Hooper's long-gestating Cats movie adaptation has set its cast, and it's a who's who of pop stars, talk show hosts, and stage veterans - all of whom you'll really want to see don skin-tight catsuits.
So far, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and James Corden have been cast; Hudson will play former "glamour cat" Grizabella while the roles of the rest of the cast haven't been announced yet. Tom Hooper - who is said to have almost cast the pop star in his 2012 big-screen adaptation of Les Misérables - will direct. Based on T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favorite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year - the night of the Jellicle Ball.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's inexplicably popular Cats is one of the most successful (and longest-running) musicals in Broadway history, and soon, it will become one of the biggest movie musicals, too.
First performed in 1981, Cats follows a tribe of felines called the Jellicles on the night when they decide which of their number will go to the Heaviside Layer and return to a new life. No casting has taken place yet.
