A man wanted for questioning in the murder of a college student shot three police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday during a series of firefights that began at a motel and ended with his death when he bolted from a house with his rifle blazing, authorities said. Officers focused their search nearby the area of 30th and Topping.
WDAF reported that two of the officers were shot when they encountered the suspect with a rifle at a motel early Sunday afternoon.
One additional officer was injured in the tradeoff and taken to the hospital. Two officers were struck and are at the hospital in stable condition.
According to the KC Police twitter feed, "Approximately 12:15 pm undercover and tactical officers were conducting an ongoing investigation at 8300 E 40 hwy". He was shot and taken into custody.
Both directions of I-70 are now currently open.
As Fox News reported, a stick-up man shot and killed Sharath Koppu, a 25-year-old graduate student at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, in the back at J's Fish and Chicken Market in Kansas City July 6 as Koppu tried to run away.
KSHB TV reports that two of the officers are hospitalized and expected to recover.
The suspect in those shootings is dead. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The tweet also stated, "At approximately 1:15p the armed suspect exited a residence and once again exchanged gunfire with officers".
The shooting happened in the area of 40 Highway and Manchester Trafficway. "Sharath is known to his family and friends as full of dreams, cheerful, energetic and athletic", Chowdavaram wrote.
