"Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin", stated McGregor.
The UFC superstar, who was given a box seat to watch France beat Croatia 4-2, described the experience as a "truly fantastic spectacle" on his Instagram account - pictured watching the game unfold as he ate his dinner.
The Football world cup is coming to an end today and France are crowned the new world champions.
McGregor is now awaiting his next court date in NY for his highly-publicized assault on a bus containing UFC lightweight champion before April's UFC 223. McGregor was one of the VIP bandwagoners at the final in Moscow, and as it transpires, he was invited as a personal guest of Putin.
But his antics didn't go down all that well on social media, as several online commentators blasted him for accepting the invitation. The star UFC fighter is celebrating in a pretty big way.
In fairness to Trump, and Putin, the Russia World Cup was a huge success and was relatively free of the controversies and problems many predicted might mar the tournament before it began. How about all the journalists and critics of Putin who have turned up dead under mysterious circumstances?
Trump's congratulations of Putin on Twitter is particularly eye-raising following this week's indictment by the Robert Mueller investigation of 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking the DNC during the 2016 election.
After the game, McGregor paid tribute to Putin and called him "one of the greatest leaders of our time".
