The announcement gave few details about the new series other than to say it will "explore the diverse individuals, from the infamous to the unknown across the political and cultural spectrum".
'Who Is America?' is billing itself as "a quest for the truth about people, places and politics".
Baron Cohen is writing and directing the seven part series, which has been in the works for over a year. Then, after a series of fast cuts that includes a anonymous bare butt, an elderly Dick Cheney is shown signing an empty gallon container, which a voice off-screen identifies as a "waterboard".
That 37-second video was also released on Twitter, and it portrayed as a Fourth of July message from the president that featured previous footage of Trump criticizing Baron Cohen.
Cohen had previously posted a tweet on July 4 featuring Donald Trump ripping into him, calling him a "third-rate character" and telling him to "go to school, learn about being amusing". "You've been warned", the posters read, while giving us a glimpse at Baron Cohen's new character, peeking out surreptitiously from behind American flags and wearing various types of eyewear. That promo had the tagline, "Sacha graduates soon", followed by an image of the Trump University logo. The video consisted of Trump calling the actor a "third-rate character" and that he wished that he would be "punched in the face so many times right now he'd be in a hospital". The show spawned a series of feature film spin-offs, starting with Ali G Indahouse (2002), Borat (2006) and Bruno (2009).
