It's nearly hard to believe that it has been two years since that fateful turn of events and Pokemon GO is now celebrating its birthday with an abundance of the Pokemon that really started it all: Pikachu.
There have been a lot of new Pokemon added to Pokemon GO since it launched two summers ago, and those who have been attempting to catch 'em all are probably struggling to find space in their collection.
In a blog post on Thursday, the Pokemon Go developer announced that Pikachu and its less-evolved form Pichu would "appear more frequently" starting Friday, July 6 until the end of the month i.e. Tuesday, July 31.
Interestingly, players can get the Summer Style Pikachu by completing any Research Quest that Pikachu would normally appear as a reward. Pikachu Fan Avatar items will be available for purchase! During that time Pichu and Pikachu will also spawn more often. Trainers possessing a gold Pikachu medal will be able to purchase all related items, including a T-shirt and Pikachu ears.
Update: Serebii is now reporting that Niantic has also just increased the maximum number of Pokémon you can store from 1,500 to 2,000 as part of their second anniversary celebration.
"We've heard so many unbelievable stories from Trainers, and we can't wait for what's on the horizon", said Niantic.
Lastly, the Pokémon GO team announced that Special Research on the Mythical Pokémon Celebi will be available globally in the near future.
