During a Fox News Channel panel, Democratic strategist Zac Petkanas described how this girl was taken away from her mom at the border - prompting Lewandowski to make a sad trombone sound: "Whuh, whuh".
Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager and frequent TV commentator, interjected by saying "womp, womp", as he rolled his eyes.
"Did you just say "womp, womp" to a 10-year-old with Down syndrome being taken from her mother?"
"Womp womp", Lewandowski interrupted, as if he just learned someone's ice cream fell off their cone, splattering on the ground. Petkanas said, incredulously. "How dare you". Lewandowski had said prior to Petkanas relaying the story of the girl with Down syndrome that "as soon as you cross the border illegally, you have committed an act which is a disservice to all of the people who have stood in line and waited to get into this country legally".
When tempers cooled slightly, Lewandowski tried to claim that Trump's family separation policy was actually the same policy carried out by the Barack Obama administration. Under the Obama Administration, children that crossed the border with their parents were usually allowed to stay with one parent.
The comments from Lewandowski come as the Trump Administration has taken considerable heat of its own over the separation of children from their families upon arrival at the USA border. "This zero-tolerance policy' applies to all adults, regardless of whether they cross alone or with their children", according to The Post.
