A shooting at an internet cafe in the southern Swedish city of Malmo has claimed the lives of three men.

The attack happened around 8pm local time (6pm GMT) in the Drottninggatan area of the city, which has been described as "quiet" place by local media.

Police said they are working on identifying all of those injured in the shooting, adding that one had been hospitalised.

Witnesses told newspaper Aftonbladet they heard what sounded like 15 to 20 shots about 6:15 the city center.

Early reports indicate that four people have been shot. Swedish police are now on the scene.

Pictures from the scene of the shooting show armed officers as well as a large paramedic presence.

While Sweden has relatively low levels of crime, neighbourhoods in Malmö, Stockholm and Gothenburg have seen a rise in violence attributed to gangs fighting over drug trafficking and prostitution. Several people have been reportedly injured in the shooting.
