Eid al-Fitr means new beginnings and it is considered auspicious to eat something sweet in order to kick-start the holy day; hence the name Meethi Eid.
Earlier today, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority that all schools will also be closed from this Thursday, until Sunday, with the possibility of the holiday extending to Monday also.
"Tomorrow's meeting will conclude if the first day of Eid is going to be on Friday or Saturday in the Sultanate", said Yousuf Al Rahbi, Assistant Director of Astronomy Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
Based on that, Ramadan, which began on Thursday, May 17, is expected to run for 29 days.
A formal announcement regarding Eid-ul-Fitr will be made after evidence of moon sighting is collected from different parts of the country.
The federal government has declared Friday, June 15, and Monday, June 18, as public holidays to allow Muslims in Nigeria join their counterparts across the world to celebrate the 2018 Eid- El Fitr, Abdulrahman Dambazau, a minister, has announced.
Under the plans, government and military staff will receive around a full working week off to mark the holiday.
