This all started at about 11 a.m. Tuesday when Minnesota Public Radio reporter Tim Nelson noticed the fuzzy friend trapped on an overhang near the bottom of the UBS Building in downtown St. Paul. Rescue efforts by the St. Paul Fire Department and building workers, who fashioned a makeshift ladder, have proven unsuccessful.
Nearby Minnesota Public Radio branded the raccoon with the hashtag #mprraccoon.
A raccoon scaling a Minnesota skyscraper may be the most popular thing on the internet right now and it's putting many people in a Marvel state of mind - complete with Rocket Raccoon jokes.
Right now in Minnesota, a humble raccoon has taken on a lofty challenge: it's scaling a skyscraper, and we're all really anxious about it. That's when it started climbing.
As the raccoon climbed higher and higher on Tuesday, animal welfare officials hoped that it would reach the roof of the UBS Plaza building so it could be trapped. Users posted photos of the raccoon's plight onto social media.
The raccoon also has its own Twitter account, with one tweet saying, "I made a big mistake". A maintenance crew tried to offer it an escape route, but the creature - that likely hasn't had water or food for two days - fled to a second building and finally to the UBS skyscraper.
