Katy Perry Calls Performances by Three 'American Idol' Contestants "A Disaster"

'American Idol' finale results take angry fans to social media to complain about the results

"American Idol" winner Maddie Poppe reveals she's dating finalist Caleb Lee Hutchinson

With Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe holding on to their chances of earning the title of the next 'American Idol, ' they gave it their all when hitting the stage for both their induction songs if chosen as the victor and their favorite classics to showcase their vocal progression throughout the past few weeks. Poppe then shared the microphone with each one of them, performing the song as a group.

Following the second round, in which each of the top three gave an encore performance of their favorite song from the competition this season, Perry told host Ryan Seacrest, "The first round ... was a disaster".

Round 1 went to Maddie, but Lionel summed up the three performances simply as "massive discomfort".

Harsh words from the breakout judge in ABC's first season of American Idol.

So will it be Gabby, Maddie, or Caleb for the win? She did Miranda Lambert's "Little Red Wagon".

Maddie was up next with her original song, "Don't Ever Let Your Children Grow Up". She just wants to make and sing music forever. Her energy was the complete opposite of where it was after her first performance. The first round may have been a rough start for the contestants, but - luckily - by round two they had gotten their groove back. "Wake up!" Katy said before Round 3 commenced. The performances were dedicated to their hometowns, a personal pick, and an original song. He channeled the beloved honesty of Johnny Cash on "Folsom Prison Blues" and also related to Cash in his coronation song called "Johnny Cash Heart". Watching in excitement and with pride, the three judges rose from their chairs and cheered her on. And, halfway through the performance, the legendary Patty Labelle joined in for the fun. Gabby, 19, took on "Little Red Wagon", "Rivers Deep", and "Don't Stop Believin, '" the last in which Luke Bryan called "the most unbelievable version [he's] ever heard".

And Maddie took the stage with "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac as a tribute to Clarksville, IA. "She was wonderful, that's my critique!" he said. The night ended with Katy getting on her phone and telling Maddie, "I'm voting for you".
