Walmart is trying to lure wealthy shoppers to its website with a new online shop featuring upscale fashion brands sold by Lord & Taylor.
The company is launching the Lord & Taylor store on its website in the coming weeks with more than 125 brands like Lucky Brand, Vince Camuto and Tommy Bahama, reflecting its effort to broaden its customer base, drive growth and compete with Amazon. The Bentonville, Ark., store wants its site to become "a destination for fashion", said Denise Incandela, head of fashion for Walmart US e-commerce.
The luxury department store chain, which formally announced a partnership with Walmart late past year, will earn a dedicated spot on the site's homepage, allowing it to market its extensive brand portfolio to the retail giant's estimated 100 million unique visitors every month, according to comScore data.
Lord & Taylor products available at Walmart.com will include men's, women's and kids' clothing, as well as shoes, accessories and jewelry. Orders over $35 will be eligible for free two-day shipping. "The next step is the launch of the Lord & Taylor flagship store, which introduces exciting new premium brands to our customers". According to CNBC, shoppers have been actively searching the retailer's existing ecommerce sites for premium brands, said Denise Incandela, head of fashion for Walmart's U.S. e-commerce operations.
Walmart to Roll Out Upscale Lord & Taylor Products Online
Meanwhile Lord & Taylor, which is battling years of declining mall traffic, is hoping to get a sales boost through the new partnership.
Walmart notes that customers shopping for Lord & Taylor goods via its online store will be able to narrow searches down by different categories. The retailer's new fashion landing page - which is part of its recent site upgrade - will soon offer shoppers two tabs: "everyday brands" and "premium brands".
