The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018 were announced yesterday where Chandigarh has been placed at the 3rd spot just after Indore and Bhopal in overall cleanliness.

Indore has been ranked first in India's cleanest cities survey Swachh Survekshan-2018. State ranking was introduced in this year's survey, which was conducted between January 4 and March 10.

Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday won two awards under the Swachhata Survekshan 2018, the government's cleanliness survey. The news of Chandigarh being ranked as the third cleanest city of India in 2018 has brought cheers to the residents of Chandigarh. While Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) bagged the award for waste management, which includes segregation of waste and transportation from household to Jawaharnagar dumping yard and recycling it, the rank of the city for cleanliness has not been released yet. While Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao's constituency Siddipet was declared the cleanest city in the south zone, Bod Uppal was declared the best city in citizens' feedback and Peerzadiguda was declared the best city in innovation and best practices. One of their other unique experiments included installation of a huge Radio at Roshanpura square. Janardhan Reddy, stating that this was "the mother of all awards", said it emphasized the core concern of city governance in present days. In the Swachh Survekshan-2016 rankings, Vijayawada secured 23rd rank and 19th rank in 2017 among the 500 cities surveyed. The move had also helped the civic body to make Nagpur city open defecation free. This year, 35% weightage was given to citizen feedback, 30% weightage to direct observation and 45 % percent weightage has been given to service level progress. The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018, which aims to estimate levels of cleanliness across cities in the country, were announced by Union Minister of State for Housing Hardeep Singh Puri today. In 2017, the scope of Swachchh Survekshan was enlarged to cover 434 cities having a population of one lakh or more and Capital city of States/UTs and Indore was awarded as cleanest city of India.
