Said Mourinho: "I will organise my coaching staff in a way where the assistant manager figure doesn't exist". He joined the club seven months after Roy Keane's departure, inheriting his No. 16 shirt in the process.

The former England midfielder also said he meant to be a "pest" by picking the brains of as many people as possible as he embarks on his foray into coaching and potentially management in the future. But the English player now has revealed that he will make an immediate switch to the coaching team under manager Jose Mourinho this Saturday and is desirous to learn from one of best coaches in the world. He had big boots to fill, but I think he's proven that he's more than worthy of the shirt. "But it is a hard role, you need somebody to talk to because you can't bounce things off people if they're not there". Sometimes I see things he doesn't and sometime he sees things I can't.
