The Senate intelligence committee says it agrees with a 2017 assessment by intelligence agencies that Russian Federation intervened in the presidential election earlier to hurt the candidacy of Democrat Hillary Clinton and to help Donald Trump.
That's in contrast to the House intelligence committee, which agreed with the majority of the report but said last month that the agencies "did not employ proper analytic tradecraft" while assessing Russian president Vladimir Putin's intentions.
But lawmakers pressed further: Did Trump Jr. know about the meetings when they occurred?
The special counsel is investigating the Russian meddling in the election, whether Trump's campaign was involved and possible obstruction of justice.
The announcement of the completed review of the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian activities in the 2016 USA elections was announced in a press release from committee chairman Sen.
In addition, the transcripts reflect an aggressive Russian outreach to Trump both before and after the June 2016 meeting, including an effort to arrange a follow-up get-together that November with members of his transition team.
The White House has said the president was involved in drafting an initial statement after news of the meeting broke past year. "I was aware of none", said Trump Jr., in a seemingly definitive statement within his I-don't-remember-filled interview.
The transcripts also included interviews with Glenn Simpson, a co-founder of Fusion GPS, which researched Trump's ties to Russia and produced a dossier denounced by the White House, and Robert Goldstone, a music publicist who said he had information about Clinton, and written responses to questions from the committee from Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer who attended the meeting, and Anatoli Samochornov, her translator.
"After a few minutes of this labored presentation, Jared Kushner, who is sitting next to me, appeared somewhat agitated by this and said, 'I really have no idea what you're talking about". Trump dismisses any talk of collusion.
Trump Jr. also said he did not inform his father about the meeting ahead of time, because he didn't want to bring him "unsubstantiated" information. He said he reported back to Emin Agalarov that "this was the most embarrassing thing you've ever asked me to do". "I believe there was a meeting there". He said he desperately needed a lawyer, wanted to speak publicly about the case but couldn't because the Trump lawyers wouldn't let him and was hoping to be compensated by the Agalarovs for his troubles. They worked out who should sit where, and I sat next to Mr. Kushner. "Have you been watching the news!" "So am painted as some mysterious link to Putin".
