At the Cannes Film Festival, Kathleen Kennedy told Premiere France (with a hat tip to ComicBook) that yes, Lucasfilm's thinking has expanded to include the possibility of a Lando Calrissian solo movie. "A Lucasfilm representative told io9 that "[Kennedy] said it's something she'd like to do one day in the future". "Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next". It is the second in a series of planned standalone "Star Wars" movies meant to exist outside the main trilogies.
That's right, following the premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed/teased that the galaxy's most charming gambler is due to get his time in the spotlight (at long last).
Since 2017, an Obi-Wan movie has been reportedly in the works at Lucas.
Ever since Donald Glover's casting was announced for Solo, my first thought was, But what about a Lando movie? Lando is also a beloved character who has been rumored to be getting his own film before and even has his own comic book line with Marvel.
Lando Calrissian Is Getting His Own Star Wars Movie
LucasFilm have always been rumoured to be planning sequels for Solo, but it presumably depends on how the movie fares at the box office when it opens later this month.
Alden Ehrenreich plays Han Solo in the movie, with Emelia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton and Paul Bettany supporting.
Meanwhile, Ehrenreich has revealed that he is under contract for two more "Star Wars" films, meaning his Han Solo could very well appear in a future Lando standalone film.
Solo: A Star Wars Story arrιves in theaters May 25, 2018.
