Nick Newell is by no means a novelty act.Newell will make his debut on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series this summer.
The complete schedule for the second season of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series has yet to be announced, but the events will once again stream live on UFC Fight Pass. At the conclusion of each episode, White and UFC matchmakers offer at least one contract to a fighter on the card.
The 32-year-old Newell is a congenital amputee who was born without the lower half of his left arm, but that hasn't stopped him from making a notable impact in MMA, fighting for the likes of WSOF and LFA.
ESPN's Brett Okamoto first reported the deal, and MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed the plans with UFC officials.
Newell has only suffered one defeat in his professional MMA career and that came to UFC veteran Justin Gaethje at the WSOF 11. Gaethje, who is now with the UFC, has advocated for Newell to get a shot in the Octagon.
I want to thank Dana White, Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard for believing in me and giving me a shot.
Newell's advancement appears to be a change of heart for White, who had said in 2012 that the UFC had no interest in signing Newell because it would be too unsafe for him to face UFC-caliber competition, ESPN said. I'm grateful for the opportunity.
