The body of 38-year-old Soumya Thottapilly was found Friday. A body recovered last week was identified as Mr. Thottapilly's wife, Soumya, 38.

An inter-agency search and rescue team has recovered two more bodies of an Indian American family who were feared drowned in a California river some 10 days ago, USA officials said on Tuesday.

The authorities in Northern California have recovered and identified the bodies of three out of four members of a California family who disappeared while on a road trip earlier this month.

In a statement on the rescue efforts, California's Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said, "At approximately 11:30 AM a boating team noticed a gasoline smell emitting from the water approximately 1/2 mile north of the reported crash site (downstream)".

Mendocino County Sheriff Thomas Allman told a news conference that the body was found along the bank of Eel River about seven miles south of the spot where, the police suspect their vehicle went missing. They had been traveling from Portland, Ore., and were supposed to meet with relatives in San Jose the following day before going back to their home in Santa Clarita, Calif., just outside Los Angeles.

Authorities, who originally had said the body was a child's, anticipate that an autopsy will be performed early next week. "The searchers began to probe the water and located a vehicle submerged approximately 4-6 feet beneath the water".

Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, were found dead inside a vehicle encased in sediment in the Eel River, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said. "They were able to locate numerous items that appeared to have come from a vehicle body and interior", the Garberville office of the California Highway Patrol said.

Investigators have found and identified the bodies of three family members who vanished while on a road trip from OR to California.

The bodies were recovered on Sunday inside the vehicle, a Honda Pilot, which was recovered from about 4-6 feet of the Eel River. The family was believed to be traveling through the Redwood Coast Highway on a vacation.

Officials last week determined the vehicle belonged to the Thottapilly family. The family's maroon SUV was seen falling into the river in northern Mendocino County from a pullout during an April 6 rainstorm.

The California Highway Patrol developed information that the family were travelling in a family vehicle, a 2016 maroon Honda Pilot. The family was officially reported as missing to the San Jose Police Department on April 8, the statement added. Sandeep grew up in Surat city in Gujarat and settled down in the USA over 15 years ago.
