"Last week, we had a national tournament here in Green Bay, so there's probably a bunch of teams, a bunch of buses that were all closely tied to this tragedy and they were travelling as well", says Officer Matt Knutson.

Pinch said hearing about the crash made her think of all the hours she's travelled with her son's team. "It's OK to smile and play and I thought that we had gotten there but to just get a little confirmation was huge".

"You don't think about it".

"Being part of a hockey team is exactly like being part of a family", said an emotional Moison.

She said it didn't take long for her and other local hockey parents to set up a Facebook group event pageand come up with a plan for a tribute.

Nearly all of the students and staff at Bridgewood Public School came dressed in a sports jersey or shirt on Thursday April 12, 2018 in Cornwall, Ont.

"They understand. My oldest is 11, so he very well comprehends what tragedy is", Opperman says.

"It's Canada and we're proud of our country and were proud of hockey and what it means to every Canadian", said Smith.
