Pacquiao splits from longtime trainer Freddie Roach

Manny Pacquiao, longtime boxing trainer Freddie Roach part ways after 16 years

Pacquiao predicts biggest Malaysia show since Ali

In a Sunday Facebook post, multi-titlist Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2) refuted reports that he had fired longtime trainer Freddie Roach. "I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't hurt that he didn't contact me personally about his decision, but the great times we enjoyed together far outweigh that".

Pacquiao said Roach's team has been informed of the clarification and will make a final decision within the week. "I wouldn't trade any of it", Roach said.

Pacquiao has not fought in the ring since being defeated on points by Australia's Jeff Horn in Brisbane in July, a loss that cost the Filipino star his WBO crown.

"I will make a final decision within the week".

Koncz has been vocal about possibly replacing Roach and having Pacquiao's best friend, Buboy Fernandez, be the fighter's head trainer in the Matthysse fight.

But Pacquiao, the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many weight divisions, said he hasn't decided yet on whether to keep away from Roach in his next fight or not.

Roach met Pacquiao at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, where Pacquiao first came when he was looking for a new trainer before scoring a sixth-round technical knockout of Lehlo Ledwaba in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao also is becoming a serious promoter with his bout against Matthysse, the Argentine power puncher backed by Golden Boy Promotions.

However, Pacquiao said on social media on Monday that this was not the case.

Matthysse, robust and rowdy, wants to send the Filipino legend into retirement in a story that appeared on boxingscene.

The duo each released a statement on Friday night announcing they won't be working together for Pacquiao's upcoming fight against Lucas Matthysse.

"It's all systems go", Pacquiao told reporters.

Muhammad Ali fought and won over Joe Bugner in a rematch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1975 winning by unanimous decision.
