Wolverhampton Wanderers promoted to the Premier League

Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme's English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured promotion back to the Premier League after Fulham failed to beat Brentford on Saturday.

This outcome ends a six-year absence from the top flight and this is the third time Wolves have earned promotion from the Championship. Wolves have swept all before them and as well as winning the title they will now aim to reach 100 points.

The Midlanders have led by instance within the Championship this season regardless of irking rivals over their relationship with agent Jorge Mendes. He also has a long association with Wolves owners Fosun International, who hold a stake in his company, and he advised them on the purchase of the club. Attention now turns to the Championship title, with Wolves nine points ahead of Cardiff City in second place.

The Cottagers had appeared set to make Wolves wait after Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring in the 70th minute, but a last-gasp Neal Maupay header means Wolves are now safe inside the top two.
