Mohali: Popular Punjabi singer Parmish Verma and his friend were shot at in Mohali by unidentified people on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, while they were on their way back home from an event.
Parmish Verma had shot to fame with the single Gaal Ni Kadni that made him quite an icon in the Punjab pop music culture. It stopped in front of his vehicle near Sector 74 of Mohali and fired shots at him. Mohali district police chief Kuldeep Singh Chahal told the media that investigations were underway.
Both Verma and his friend are out of danger and are now undergoing treatment in a private room in Fortis Hospital, Mohail.
The post was shared on Facebook more than 3,000 times and received over 8,000 likes. He updated his Facebook status with a picture of himself holding a gun and a cross against Verma's face.
Coming back to the shooting, reports say that a wanted gangster, Dilpreet, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
He wrote, "Mein dilpreet singh dhahan sariya nu dasna chaunda k ajj parmish verma de goliya bazian apa mariya".
Interestingly, the police is yet to take an action on Dhahan for his post, with sources telling Hindustan Times that they would "go according to their own investigation". Police also claim that Dilpreet took to crime to avenge an assault in the village, but now has links with the Vicky Gounder gang.
In a Facebook post, the gangster said that Mr Verma had "tried his best to escape, but eventually suffered".
Verma is likely to be provided police protection following the attack.
