Uber drives down stairs, gets stuck in San Francisco

Uber driver: GPS made me do it

Uber driver's wrong turn strands car on outdoor stairs

An Uber in San Francisco got stuck on stairs Monday after driving down a pedestrian walkway outside a Safeway store on Market Street.

KRON4 in San Francisco reported the incident happened in front of a Safeway grocery store, but no one - including the driver and passengers in the auto - was hurt.

An Uber representative said no one was injured and the company is investigating the incident, which some reports indicated may have resulted from the driver receiving bad information from his Global Positioning System.

Police tell KRON4 that it was a "freak accident".

A tow truck tried to pull the vehicle off the staircase, but the cable broke causing the auto to slide down, according to the San Francisco Examiner.
