President Donald Trump replaced Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Tuesday morning.

Unlike Tillerson, a former businessman who lacked government experience when Trump picked him past year as secretary of state, Pompeo is well aware of the ways of Washington.

"Russia will cooperate with those who are appointed to this or another post in the Trump administration", the state-run RIA Novosti news agency cited senior Federation Council senator Yevgeny Serebrennikov as saying Tuesday.

His tenure was more than 10 times as long as Tillerson's - a function, of course, of Roosevelt's longevity in the office.

While some intelligence officers have said that Pompeo tends to tell Trump what he wants to hear rather than giving him their assessments, others say they have been impressed by his intellect, willingness to listen and advocacy of more robust covert operations. Tillerson disagreed with Trump on issues from his decision to quit the Paris climate accords to his inclination to scrap the nuclear deal with Iran.

Here is a partial list of officials who have been fired or quit since Trump took office on January 20, 2017, as well as people nominated by him for a position who did not take the job.

Yesterday, Mr Tillerson blamed Russia for the poisonings in England of a former Russian double agent and his daughter. Earlier at the White House, press secretary Sarah Sanders had refrained from saying Moscow was responsible. The sources weren't authorized to speak publicly and demanded anonymity.

CBS News reports that Tillerson was leaving his Africa trip early to return back to Washington to talk with Mr. Trump and connect on developments in North Korea, which he was largely left out of as the White House announced it would be taking up talks with the regime sometime in May.

Mr Tillerson had no diplomatic or political experience before becoming secretary of state.

He appeared out of the loop last week when Mr Trump announced he would meet with Mr Kim. But Tillerson continued to hang on, pointing out that his doubters had yet to be proven right.

Tillerson's departure marks the latest in a flood of turnover in Trump's inner circle, including the exits of national security advisor Mike Flynn, strategist Steve Bannon, chief of staff Reince Priebus, top economic advisor Gary Cohn, Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, and White House communications director Hope Hicks.

In December Mr Tillerson had offered to begin direct talks with North Korea without pre-conditions, backing away from a key United States demand that Pyongyang must first accept that any negotiations would be about giving up its nuclear arsenal.

Trump picked Tillerson for the State Department job after a lengthy public vetting of prominent candidates, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

"Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!" Qatar calls these charges baseless. Trump contradicted Tillerson's efforts a day later.

The top U.S. diplomat's team said he was feeling unwell on Saturday and later in the weekend the state department said he would cut short his tour by a day.

Calling your boss a "moron" is never a good sign.

It was reported previous year that Rex Tillerson had used that word to describe Donald Trump, a clear indication of the hard relationship the two men had.

Then CBS News "Face the Nation" anchor Margaret Brennan reported that the secretary had not yet spoken with the president and only found out about news of his firing when the public did. Trump wrote in his tweet.
