Baltimore Ravens tackle James Hurst (74) during the second quarter against the Washington Redskins at M&T Bank Stadium. "James is a reliable, tough and versatile player who has played a lot of football for us". Hurst started all 16 games in 2017, the fourth consecutive season that he played in every game with Baltimore. That could mean he will be starting at left guard like he did in 2017 or move back to right tackle, which he had played primarily prior to last season. Hurst could stay at left guard, where he developed into a solid starter this year, with Lewis sliding out to right tackle, or Hurst could move to right tackle.
By signing Hurst, the Ravens now have 10 unrestricted free agents.
Meanwhile, Webb implied via twitter that he has been let go.
While he had a few hard moments in his transition to a new position this past year, Hurst mostly held up and filled a major void after the Ravens lost their top starting guards to season-ending injuries.
The 32-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Nicholls State, was originally selected by Baltimore in the third round (88th pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. The following year, Webb participated in 15 regular-season games and posted 54 stops in all, a pair of interceptions, two fumble recoveries and nine pass defenses.
Webb also served as the Ravens' return specialist at times, with a 95-yard kickoff return as a rookie and a 68-yard punt return touchdown in 2011.
From that point on, Webb became a mainstay in Baltimore's secondary, although he missed the Ravens' run to a Super Bowl title during the 2012-13 campaign due to a torn ACL he suffered in Week 6 of that year. According to OvertheCap.com, Howard is set to make $5 million against the salary cap in 2018; the Ravens would save $3 million if he's cut. Hurst then started eight games at left tackle in 2015 and three more at 2016.
Free agency officially begins March 14, but as of March 12, teams could begin negotiating with pending free agents from other teams.
