Survivors of a school shooting in Florida, USA, have told President Donald Trump that they want tighter gun controls. "ATTACKS WOULD END!" Trump said in a second tweet. According to a report by CNN, this idea was met with support by the ones in attendance.
The shooting at the Sandy Hook school in CT in 2012 which led to the death of 20 students and 6 teachers had triggered urgent calls for action on the gun control policies, however, no action was taken and the frequency of school shooting has increased further. Meanwhile, some supported his stand.
"A gun-free zone is, let's go in and let's attack", he said. He explained that he wants to give "concealed guns" to teachers with "military or special training experience".
What are your thoughts?
"Only the best, 20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able to immediately fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions", he wrote.
"I think they wouldn't go into the schools to start off with - I think it could very well solve your problem", he said.
While at a listening session with school shooting survivors and parents held at the White House Wednesday, Trump made several proposals to end school shootings, including arming teachers and other school staff. "Must be offensive, defense alone won't work!" he added. In response, he's promising stricter background checks focused on mental health.
"You should be anxious and you should be frightened" about the potential of another Democratic takeover of the House, Senate and White House", he said.
Guns and bump stocks have been in the headlines again this week after a deadly school shooting in Florida.
"Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue", Trump wrote.
