Air France said that half of its long-haul flights departing from Paris will not operate Thursday. Similarly, flights on KLM were unaffected by the strike.

Passengers are asked to check at airfrance.com to see if their flight is operating before going to the airport. The Air France stock has been on a generally lower trend since the beginning of 2018.

The airline said that it will inform customers on Wednesday via text message or email if their Thursday flights are cancelled.

Air France has offered its staff a 1% pay rise. Flights to Paris from airports around France including Toulouse and Lyon will also be hit.

"Around 50 staff protesters got past police to enter one of airport's terminals, where they marched and set off horns before leaving".

Air France has the "AF Connect" service, which informs its customers directly and in 13 languages all over the world on their mobile phone or by e-mail.

An estimated 28% of Air France's staff were expected to join the strike as unions demand a 6% pay increase for all workers following several years of job cuts.

Air France was seeking to minimize the impact with frequent updates to passengers, and by waiving change and rebooking fees for those affected by the action.

Still, despite the mess caused by the protest, striking workers said that was not their intent.

"Our goal is not at all to generate discomfort but unfortunately, today, it's impossible to even begin to engage in a dialogue with top management and our meetings are totally fruitless", said Eric Faliu, spokesman for the Cabin Crew union.
