Team USA celebrates Gigi Marvin's first-period goal during their semifinal game against Finland at the PyeongChang Olympics. The Czechs won Group A, the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation won Group B, and Sweden won Group C. Canada had the best record among the second-place teams. Just before the end of the first period Dani Cameranesi added a second goal past Finland's goalkeeper Noora Räty to make it 2-0. The play began when Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.) collected the puck and delivered a cross-ice pass to Lamoureux-Davidson, who ripped a slapshot past Raty.

The Americans roared past Finland in the semifinal here on Monday, scoring two goals in the first period, two in the second and one in the third.

Rooney, competing in her third game of the tournament, stopped all 14 shots to preserve the shutout win.

Finnish ice hockey player Ronja Savolainen's 2018 Winter Olympics looks over after a horror collision during her side's semi-final clash against America at PyeongChang's Gangneung Hockey Centre.

"We're confident. We'll stick with what has gotten us success the last three years", U.S. forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson said.

One item of concern for the Americans was the hard hit USA captain Meghan Duggan inflicted on Finland's Ronja Savolainen, sending her face-first into the boards. Canada and the United States have played each other in all five previous women's gold medal games in the Winter Games, with Canada winning the past four after dropping the 1998 championship game to the US women. At that point the Americans had almost as many goals (four) as Finland had shots (five).

"I don't think so".
