A Delhi University student on Monday filed a police complaint at Vasant Vihar Police station alleging a man of molesting her on board a crowded DTC bus.
This is not the first time when such a nauseating and abominable incident have taken place. To add on to the girl's agony, the co-passengers ignored the incident and chose to remain silent.
The girl has alleged that the man touched her inappropriately and then masturbated.
As per the FIR, the incident occurred on February 7 on the route between Vasant Village in South Delhi and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gate.
The girl recorded a video of the incident and uploaded it on social media.
Though the police have registered the FIR under sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354-A (making sexually coloured remarks), and 294 (obscene act in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), no arrest has been made yet.
"I made a video of the incident and posted it on social media to make people aware of the incident". An elderly man sat next to her and leaned against her, the woman moved in her seat to avoid contact with him but he leaned against her again.
"Had seen her shocking tweet and assisted her in getting FIR filed".
However, according to a report released by Delhi Police, the cases of crime against women in the national capital, including rape and molestation have declined in 2017 by 0.73 and 18.88% respectively.
Even after a number of announcements and orders by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that a marshal must be deployed in every public bus to offer safety to the women passengers, no security personnel or a CCTV camera has yet been installed in any of the public buses operational in New Delhi.
