In a late evening development, the city police on Sunday claimed to have arrested one of the prime accused. The incident which took place on Friday came to light after a CCTV footage went viral.

Amit Upadhyaya, the owner of the restaurant, appeared to suggest that the attackers had been called by the group which had an altercation with Dilip and his friends. They reportedly got into an argument with the attackers, which soon turned violent.

SSP, Allahabad, Akash Kulhari has also suspended three policemen, including in charge of Katra police outpost, on the charges of dereliction of duties in connection. The entire incident was caught on CCTV.

Dilip Saroj, a second-year LLB student of Allahabad Degree College not far from the varsity campus in the Coloneganj area, is seen in the video being bludgeoned by four persons with iron bars and chairs. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. However, the police have not yet arrested anyone.

Two days later, he succumbed to his injuries.

Saroj was sitting on the staircase with his friends Sameer, Prakash and Siddharth when a man named Vijay Shankar Singh and his friends arrived at the restaurant for dinner.

An FIR was lodged against Singh and his friend under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of IPC.

In the meantime, they clashed with each other. "We can see the men in the CCTV footage, but except for the main accused, Vijay Shankar Singh, we have not been able to identify the rest", Sukriti Madhav, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Allahabad, said. The visuals also showed his friends lifting a bloodied and unconcious law student onto a bike and rushing him to a hospital.
