Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has signed a two-year contract extension. He is on his way to pick up his second Premier League medal this season, with City overwhelming favourites to clinch the title, now holding a 12 point lead over their nearest rivals Manchester United.
The Brazilian midfielder, who joined the Cityzens back in 2013 for £30 million from Shakhtar Donetsk, has made a total of 212 appearances for the club.
City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain added: "We're delighted Ferna has signed his new contract".
"When Man United, Liverpool and the other clubs in Europe do what they do, I respect".
'Oldham is just down the road and City allowed me to get an insight into their philosophy as a football club. He's developed into one of the best holding midfielders in the game and should continue to play at a high level during his time with City.
"My only aim is to help the team and give all I can for this club".
"So when you hear something like that you know you have to keep going the way you are now because if someone like him says that you know you are doing the right things".
On Thursday, the Citizens announced Nicolas Otamendi had extended his stay in the blue half of Manchester until 20202, and Fernandinho has since followed suit, putting pen to a new two-year deal. Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne are also expected to be offered improved deals in the New Year.
