"Even among the largest places on the list, the market for tech workers would be transformed by the new demand for 50,000 workers", said Jed Kolko, chief economist at Indeed, a job listing website.
"We had the cards stacked against us from the beginning", he said. Other communities, including New Britain, Bridgeport, Danbury and New Haven, submitted individual proposals.
"We responded to their RFP and worked with the Somerset County Business Partnership to pull together a package", explained Colin Driver, Somerville Economic Development director.
"It showed a clear vision for the future of our city and brought out the very best of our city and our region, ' said Duggan".
"I would have liked it be in Somerville, but we weren't picked, obviously".
New Jersey is now home to 10 Amazon facilities, the largest of which is 1 million square feet in Carteret.
"It goes beyond just jobs, it's about the impact in the community", said Bodich.
"I think it's important to recognize that if it's good for IN, it's good for Fort Wayne", he said.
There is a potential that workers from northeast IN would move for jobs IN Indianapolis, but that's true any day, Sampson said.
Among the long shots, Paddy Power listed a tie at 20-to-1 odds for nearly half the field, comprised of Columbus, Los Angeles, Nashville, Indianapolis, Raleigh, Dallas, Northern Virginia, and Miami. Amazon said it will make a decision this year.
The race for Amazon is over, at least for the Twin Cities.
Upstate Alliance CEO John Lummus said despite Amazon's choice to look elsewhere for its headquarters, the region stands to benefit if it does come to a nearby city.
The borough's Amazon proposal was centered on a 22-acre tract of property at the former landfill, a portion of which fronts on Route 206.
"The thing that will attract people more than anything else is an engaging job at a high wage, especially if their high wages aren't eaten up by high housing costs", Kolko said.
