Experts tell Congress China is best avenue for North Korea intervention

North and South Korea held their second working-level talks this week on Wednesday two days after the two Koreas exchanged opinions on the North's performance teams coming to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics next month.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has gloried in the breakthroughs his country has made in terms of missile propulsion and nuclear testing in recent years, but this is not the first time doubts have been expressed about how much progress is actually being made.

(Newswire.net- January 19, 2018) -North and South Korean sportsmen and sportswomen will march under a joint flag at the opening of the Olympic Games in Pyongyang.

Naturally, not everyone is happy about North Korea's participation, including the South Korean women's hockey team.

But many Koreans do hope North and South Korea can become one in the future.

Under Kim Jong Un, North Korea has written the possession of nuclear weapons into its constitution.

An unnamed South Korean unification ministry official said the message from the North included the word "stop", when describing the reversal of an earlier decision, according to the report.

The American military is in preparations to go to war in the likely event that North Korea provokes South Korea or disrupts the schedules Winter Olympic in Pyeongchang next month. North Korea missed an October 31 deadline to accept invitations from South Korea and the International Olympic Committee to join the games.

The North did not give a reason for the cancellation, Yonhap quoted the ministry as saying. At the time, the cheerleaders received an icy reception from authorities under the then-Park Geun-hye presidency, during which all civilian interaction, humanitarian aid and diplomatic channels with North Korea were shut down.

Although created in 8th century BC in Athens, Greece, the modern Olympics began in 1896 with the formation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was recently announced that North Korea will be sending both athletes and diplomats to the games and will also be opening up communications about solutions to the ongoing military tension with South Korea.

The two countries are also considering a visiting forces agreement to further expand their military cooperation. In that light, again, seeing North Korea athletes participating would be a good thing.

The letter was addressed to Unification Minister Cho Myung-gyun.

Nigeria will also have its first competitors in the history of the Winter Olympic Games.

While military action during the games is nearly a non-issue with the recent meeting between the North and South, the ongoing lack of diplomacy shown by our current president is nearly certain to continue throughout the games.
