"She alleged that he tried to grab her and molested her, besides offering some drinks laced with sedatives".

The Delhi Police arrested a 22-year-old Non-resident Indian (NRI) for allegedly molesting a 52-year-old United States national outside a five-star hotel in Lutyens' Delhi.

Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B K Singh said that following the woman's complaint, a case under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc with intent to commit an offence) has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station.

"Kharbanda, a California-based Non-Resident Indian, met the victim in the lounge and introduced himself to her".

The incident reportedly took place in his room around on 8 January around 10 pm after the accused Anmol Singh Kharbanda invited the customer into his room for a smoke after meeting her at hotel's luxury bar.

"She did not lodge a complaint the very next day as she had to go to Jaipur", he added. The statement was recorded before the City Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC. A spokesperson for Taj Diplomatic Enclave said they have been providing all support to police. Police officers say that the accused was in Delhi on business and was staying in a room on the eight floor of the hotel. In her statement, the woman said she did not register a complaint immediately but changed her mind after narrating her ordeal to a friend. "We are aware of this incident. Safety and security of our guests and associates is paramount", said the spokesperson of the Taj Diplomatic Enclave hotel.
